Bansko boasts the most developed and modern ski resort in Bulgaria, where the stunning views at 2000-2600m altitude blend with excellent ski conditions and numerous hiking trails. Located in Pirin, one of the highest alpine mountains in South Bulgaria, and close to the ski resorts of Razlog and Dobrinishte, Bansko is the city which offers something for everyone. With its great historical and cultural heritage, the city can tell you its story while walking on the streets or stopping by at one of the typical
restaurants with traditional cuisine and folklore music. The traditional architecture of the houses inspires for a cozy ambience and walking down the streets you will be charmed by the particular pavements and sites.
Winter activities
The fame of Bansko, as an internationally recognized ski destination, has increased recently, as many new pistes and ski areas have been created and contemporary ski facilities installed. There are two main ski areas in the resort – Chalin Valog (1100-1600m of altitude) and Shiligarnika (1700-2500m of altitude), easily accessible by the 8-seat gondola lift. The highest peak in the mountains is Vihren (2914m of altitude), at the foot of which there is the starting point of the most attractive and picturesque ski runs. At the territory of 65km, the skiers can choose among the various pistes, lifts and drag lifts according to their skills and preferences. Snowboarders will be pleased as well, since there is a gorgeous fun park with opportunity to build jumps and other bumps. The ski season lasts until May thanks to the snowmaking machines that provide a wonderful ski cover all trough the winter.
Summer activities
Summer is the season when individual tourists and hiking groups choose Pirin Mountain for a tour to explore the majority of beautiful spots there. Many of the routes pass along the river through mountain huts and reach marvelous areas with verdant meadows. The summits offer unforgettable panorama of the alpine lakes, the most spectacular of which are the Moratovo lake, Ribno and Okoto lakes, as well as Popovo lake, all of them with crystal-clear water and scenic surroundings. Trekkers who adore extreme routes will like Koncheto, a rocky edge tour, which will take your breath away. Mountain biking is also possible but if you prefer to relax in the town, there are wellness & spa centres with sumptuous services.

The city is popular also for its hospitality, as well as 120 cultural and historical monuments, so you will never be bored even if you are not keen on sports activities. Many shops offer a wide range of souvenirs to buy to remind you of the local crafts and customs. In the evening do not miss a visit to the local restaurants, like the one called “Mehana” where the personnel and orchestra will do their best to make you feel delighted from the delicious meals and music.
